The Disney World complex in Bay Lake and Buena Vista, Florida is located near Orlando. While there are several hotels in these areas, not all are disney world hotels
, though some do offer the same benefits. While the area surrounding Disney World originally had a different owner, the area is now owned and operated by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, a subsidiary of the original owner.
Currently, the resort plays home to an outdoor shopping complex, a number of entertainment venues, a camping resort, several golf courses and nine hotels which are not owned by the company. While this is the case, there are 27 themed resort hotels, 2 water parks and 4 theme parks, all of which are owned by the resort.
The original plan for the resort was to supplement the California Disney park in Anaheim, California. In the case of California, the park opened in the mid-1950s, after which Walt began work on the design for the resort in Florida in the 1960s. During this time, the planning phase was known as the Florida Project. For, the intention was to build a separate and diverse identity rather than mimic the park in California.
One of the biggest highlights is the EPCOT attraction. For, individuals can travel around the world, step into the future and taste foods from around the world. While Disney had an idea for EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype of Tomorrow, the attraction now serves millions of visitors each year. While an early development, EPCOT now shares the limelight with three other theme parks on the resort.
It took a great deal of work to get the Florida government to improve the Reedy Creek Improvement district on which the park would be built. As part of the agreement, Disney gained the rights to create a full autonomous city. Unfortunately, Walt passed away before seeing construction begin on this or any other aspect of the resort.
The company abandoned the early concepts which Walt brought to the table. After with construction began on Magic Kingdom which later opened in 19721. EPCOT was completed in 1982, Animal Kingdom in 1998 and Hollywood Studios in 1989. Animal Kingdom is the newest park in the complex. Whereas, the new Star Wars Experience is on track to be the most visited attraction in the park.
Currently, the resort continues to be one of the most popular attractions in America. With millions in attendance each year, the resort remains a destination for vacationers, corporations, schools and others. As such, it has become a staple with regards to American culture.
People traveling from afar often like to stay at the on-site themed hotels. For, those on-site often offer free transportation to and from major airports and hotels to the park entrance along with early admission. In addition, there are a number of pre-designed vacations offered by the resort which are all inclusive.
While a number of people prefer to stay on-site, there are a number of lodging options in the area. In many cases, area hotels have similar amenities to those owned by the resort at a lower nightly rate. Most often, the higher the rate, the more benefits with regards to shuttles and park packages an hotel has to offer.
